The Volunteer
When you see those lights flashing
On the dash of the car coming from the rear,
Pull on over make way
Because here comes a local volunteer.

Doesn't use them for status or bragging right
Maybe going to save some kids that fell through the ice,
Or is heading to an accident or a fire to fight
Whatever it is won't be nice.

What they are about to face
I can only guess because I don't know,
But if there's trouble they will be there
Whether it's 120 degrees or 40 below.

Next time you're out and about
And those flashing lights draw near,
Know there is help on the way
Because they care enough to volunteer.

A special thank you for responding to the working structure fire at 405 12th Street on March 27,2009. This is my father-in-laws house who passed away on Dec. 31st. My husband and I are volunteer FF's in Parsons, WV and he came up today to secure the house...what an outstanding job all of you did containing the fire! Although we will be having it demolished, we are so THANKFUL that no one was injured and no other homes were damaged. Again, thank you for your wonderful firefighting skills!
